From the Huffington Post:

“It’s kind of ironic,” Overstock President Stormy Simon told The Huffington Post on Wednesday. Simon said someone approached her after Tuesday’s press conference to remind her of the 2013 article. She hadn’t remembered the story, but the president of The Onion texted her after Tuesday’s announcement. “It’s hysterical,” she said. “Reading it today, I thought, ‘This looks like a press release!'”

Overstock’s new service will be part of Overstock’s membership program, Club O. For $19.95 per year, a Club O membership gets you extra discounts, free shipping, special deals at restaurants and more. Membership is free for students, first responders and military personnel.

“We think this makes perfect sense for us to get into this business,” [CEO Patrick] Byrne said.

Meanwhile in New Zealand… it’s “silly season,” the summer months when people are doing a lot of drinking and celebrating.

Apparently they are also doing some pretty stupid stuff.

The NZ Herald recently spoke with a patient flow co-ordinator at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland, and learned about all the dumb accidents they have been seeing lately.

For instance, a man was mowing his lawn when the blades got stuck on sticks and grass. He tried to remove the debris with his hand, and the blade shattered his bones. (He didn’t lose his fingers.)

Among other incidents they have seen are people sticking their tongues in blenders, smashing windows to break into their own homes, chopping their fingers when trying to cut frozen hamburger patties, and a number of chainsaw-related accidents.

“Summer is a time where we get a lot of sporting injuries, but we’ve also got lots of injuries that happen because people don’t engage their minds,” the hospital said.

From WCVB:

"She walked into the lobby and was carrying a Dunkin' Donuts box, walked up to the window, when the officer greeted her asked if he could help here she said 'I'm here to feed the pigs,'" Framingham police Lt. Harry Wareham said.

McNamara then allegedly reached into the box and began throwing raw bacon and sausage at the officer and smearing the greasy meat onto the bulletproof glass.

"It's clear she may need help," Wareham said.
