Misfortune Monday: Why Should Anything Go Right?

Not trying to be a Charlie Brown here, but it's not like there's a natural law dictating that our lives must go perfectly. We just kind of have to hope our lives play out better than horribly and not let the setbacks get to us. That's a hard thing to do in a merciless world where things just keep happening, but we're basically out of options. The world is home to misfortune and chaos, and we are its roommates.

Blunderous Failures of The English Language

Whether English is your first language or not, people still have an extremely hard time navigating the finer points of spelling and wordology. These blunderous foibles of the English language drive home the fact that a one-letter mistake can mean a whole lot of difference, and even spelling something phonetically can lead to catastrophically regrettable spelling fails

Animals Who Shamelessly Wrecked Stuff

To what extent is a cat or dog capable of feeling guilt? The answer is case by case. In the case of some pets like Prancer, the most irredeemable dog, you're likely to get as much remorse as you would a rock. Some dogs probably think they're doing you a favor by eating the door so you can be together. Maybe dogs who get stuck in things are a little more emotionally invested in you if they need your help, but they're also pretty good at making it seem like they don't really care.

Laughable and Dumb Building Maneuvers In Need of A Pro

Sure, you're allowed some creative license when it comes to designing a living space, but some of the unprofessional "not my job" moments and low budget solutions involved in building that place can get to be a bit much. It's hard to choose between having a permanent kitchen toilet or a permanent unmovable rafter ladder. What about a repurposed jug door handle? No?

Every one of us will have a time in our life when we realize something too late. It may have been super obvious all along, or it may have taken some thinking. Misfortune Monday: Chaos is Unavoidable

They say that life never gives you more than you can handle, but isn't that a bit of a logical fallacy? We're sort of built to withstand punishment, so just seeing how much we're willing to take is an exercise in futility. Like, of course people "handle" the merciless world around them if you count "handling" as just standing there and taking it. Sounds like some survivorship bias. Whatever chaos occurs, the world keeps on turnin'.

"Not My Job" Moments Of Effortless Unprofessionalism

Work is a necessary evil. Doing stuff basically sucks, but it's better than being hungry, wet and cold all the time, so the choice is pretty obvious. Naturally, most of us try to get through the day employing as little effort as possible, and sadly for some of us it really shows. "Not my job" moments of failure fill up our streets and living spaces, providing at least some ironic consolation that everyone, not just you, is doing the bare minimum. These moments of dubious professionalism are far from our best work, and it shows.

Misfortune Monday: The World Keeps On Turnin'

The world is a merciless place filled with chaos and misfortune of all stripes. It's almost not even worth it thinking about what could go wrong, just because so much can go wrong. Worried your dog will escape your fence? Well he's already chewed up your shoes. Afraid your car will get towed in that iffy spot? Well it's been crushed by a tree. It's clear that in life, things just keep happening and we only have a little bit of control over the menagerie of misfortune that might befall us.

There are more stupid design failures out there than you could shake a stick at, and even that stick might have some fatal flaws. These design failures deserve some blame.

Unlucky Moments of Misfortune and Chaos

Our successes wouldn't seem so great if we didn't have moments of failure and chaos, or so they say. It would probably be just as nice to enjoy a promotion or lottery win without having to deal with all the exploded toilets and dropped eggs that life tends to throw at us, but that's just a personal opinion. Either way, the world is merciless.

Design Fails That Could Have Used a Second Look

For some reason it's always the least detail-oriented who are in charge of details. Maybe it's a lax attitude toward perfection that leads to some "not my job" failures of professionalism. Maybe it's just overconfidence that results in design failures that deserve some blame. Whatever the reason, it sure does not look good to have a big sign that reads "We will eat your family."
