'I went above and beyond and was awarded an exceptional yearly performance review': Company cancels $1,500 Christmas bonuses just 10 days prior to distribution

There's no better gift to get from a company than a Christmas bonus at the end of the year. Well, a bonus is nice at any time of the year, but since December can be an expensive month, it's extra nice to get a little bit of help around the holidays. I know not all companies can afford to give out bonuses at Christmas, and that's fair, but what's not fair is what happened to this OP.

'I quit': Employee quits after being denied a single day of leave to spend with visiting parents over Christmas

Imagine wanting a single day to spend with your visiting relatives over the holiday period and being told that it's not an option. Unfortunately, it's a reality that many employees face, particularly in sectors like retail, which also happen to be experiencing pumping trade at this time of year, and can't afford to have a single staff member away—primarily due to the appallingly low staffing levels they keep. They regard their authority in this situation to be absolute and—to be fair, it often…

The holiday season can be earmarked by chaos, mayhem, and grouchy shoppers. Although every Hallmark movie boasts about cheerful worldly interactions and whimsical holiday shopping, any home-grown American can tell you that all decorum and merriment is thrown out the window the moment you set foot in the department store parking lot.

‘I canceled the room to get her away from me’: Hotel guest throws a tantrum over room reservation, front desk clerk forced to give her a refund

Imagine you are sitting in an uncomfortable, old desk chair that needed to be replaced about 10 years ago, and instead of staring at the empty hotel lobby in front of you, you opt instead to play some Solitaire on your as equally old computer. You are just about stumped when your game is interrupted by a Karen who is on her way to interrupt your peace. She enters the lobby with a dramatic air about her, shouting words that you can't quite make out yet until she gets a bit closer. Anddddd, you h…

'We won't be paid, [so] my answer was no': Daycare worker refuses to work overtime for the school's Christmas party, gets criticized for lacking 'Team Spirit'

During the holidays, it's almost inevitable that someone at the dinner table will ask you for free services related to your career. If you're a lawyer, you'll likely be asked for legal advice over the Christmas ham. If you're a doctor, your distant cousins might ask you if the mole on their neck is benign after a few too many glasses of grog. And if you're a daycare worker, you'll likely be asked to volunteer for free at your school's kiddo Christmas bash.

Top Unpopular Opinions of the Year

Christmasssssssss is coming up, and I am per usual, per every year, per every decade, STRESSED. Running about to find gifts, gahhh, it's absolutely exhausting and my family is never happy with what I get them anyway, but it's not like I have a choice, because they would be way more offended if I didn't get them anything at all. So, you win some, you lose some. Now that I am done with my short holiday rant, let's get on to the unpopular opinions. Every so often, I make a point to post the most r…

'We never put lights on the tree': Son shares how his father's Christmas lie changed the course of family Christmas for 30 years

Families and tradition are synonymous with one another; it might be as simple as some small silly thing that you do together every year during the holidays, or it might be a serious, all-encompassing system of decorum that members must abide by. As most of us aren't part of some pseudo-royalty billionaire trust or vying for the succession of our father's multinational mass media company—chances are, more often than not, that most of our family traditions land towards the sillier end of the spec…

‘I'm leaving, good luck with the holiday rush': Senior employee quits after getting written up on his day off; boss backpedals

Coming to help in on your day off is like doing an angel's work, and bosses should be appreciative and not take it for granted. But upper management always finds a reason to complain, and they often feel entitled to employees' time, even when they aren't supposed to be working. This employee named Steve was probably a little too good at his job, and despite not being paid enough, he put all his effort into making the workplace better, even going as far as to come to help out in on his day off.…

'Christmas morning, I was ready': Newlywed overhears husband and in-laws dissing her, then plots husband's downfall for the next holiday season

The holiday season is a time to be with your family… unless you have to deal with these uppity in-laws. This family seemingly prioritizes tradition over kindness, and u/seriouslampshade was having none of it. In so many Christmas TV specials and movies, the message is clear: the holidays aren't about buying tons of stuff, they're about spending time with the people you love most. But apparently this person's in-laws never got that message . They're way more concerned with the way their gifts to…

'I don't need to buy [my coworkers] gifts': Employee refuses to participate in Office Secret Santa, gets into conflict with HR

Now that it's the Holiday season, we are unfortunately subjected to that time of year when we have to get gifts for more people than we'd like. The idea of having to participate in an annual Office Secret Santa on top of all that other shopping is truly too far. Thankfully, I have never been asked to participate in one, and honestly, thank goodness. I'm not quite sure what I've done in my life to deserve that luxury, but I'll take it. Knowing myself, if I were pressured to be a part of an Offic…

'Santa is a huge part of Christmas!': Parent criticized for telling 6-year-old daughter that santa isn't real

There's this growing sentiment in modern parenting that we should never lie to our children, that, if we do, they may one day grow up to resent us for giving them an unrealistic view of the world. Maybe, just maybe, that desire for a more realistic and grounded approach stems from the fact that we were raised being told that we could be whatever, whoever, and wherever we wanted to be when the reality is that all of those things cost money and if you don't have enough money to go, be and do ever…

‘We had to close the store before Christmas’: Local school organizes toy store for families in need with substantial discounts, new customer base ruins it for everyone

Good deeds are a dime a dozen, but this school really gave it its all so that kids would get great Christmas gifts from their parents who did not have a lot of money. Unfortunately, along comes a Grinch, today known as a Karen, and has to ruin it for everyone. In this case, many Karens. Let's start at the beginning… One school used to organize a toy store for families in need, and this store would be stocked to the brim with all kinds of donations. The parents could shop there and get new toys…

'A guest should eat what they are given': Guy gets even with Karen mother-in-law after 10 years, hosts dinner with food she can't eat

When Karens put negative energy out into the universe, they are bound to get that same energy in return. Here, we have a Karen who purposely disregarded her son-in-law's dietary issues and served a Christmas dinner with nothing for him to eat. He never forgot that feeling and it wasn't until a decade later when he finally got some payback. Sure, it's polite for a guest to eat what is served to them, but in this instance, these were known health issues that the Redditor made sure his monster-in-…

'If you think I'm the only one mad and upset with you two, think again': Entitled aunt returns Christmas card and pens a scathing note telling her nephew and his wife that they should "be ashamed"

Some people get really hung up on thank-you cards . Plenty of folks place a high value on gift-giving, and for some reason, they are also very insistent on receiving a thank-you note. Thanking the gift-giver as you open their present should be enough, right? When you can look the person in the eyes and genuinely appreciate their thoughtfulness and chat about the gift, that seems like it should be sufficient. But some people believe that if you don't send a physical thank-you card as soon as pos…
