Sketchy Business Gets Called Out, Accuses Freelancer of Being a "Shyster"

Here we have a business trying to get a dude to work on a "trial basis" essentially giving them the ability to fire him and take credit for anything he does for them. Just so happens that like any other entitled folk, they aren't happy about it. What a bunch of gagoots. And saying you're "willing" to not pay someone is almost like if someone tried to Jedi mind trick you without using the force so it's just a jackass in a bathrobe waving his hands around. For some true shyster behavior, here's the entitled mom of 4 who tried to swindle her babysitter.

Or, maybe if you've already suffered a self-created business blunder of your own, then these fails will make you feel a bit better about whatever cringe from the past keeps you up at night.

Scams That Have Been Normalized By Society

We are at heart, frugal, sometimes to the point of staggering paranoia. We're the kind of people who are inclined to look at an overpriced jar of pickles and say to ourselves "Big Pickle must be stopped." Just because a business, practice or concept has been operating for decades doesn't mean that it's not just a scam that people overlook. Stupid pickles are just vinegar and cucumbers anyway.

On the flipside, here are some things people think are scams but aren't really.

Employee Told Not To Mention Typo, Company Loses $90K

When the hierarchy gets overzealous and cocky, things can get out of hand real fast. This employee found themselves under direct orders to not double check a coworker's work, and low and behold, they wasted a whole bunch of money. At least there are times when all the blame falls on a supervisor, like this incompetent manager who demanded worse customer service and got all the blame.

Revenge Of The Week: Fifty Employees Vs Greedy Business

What a ride. And that's what makes this the latest revenge of the week. We've got a greedy business owner blinded by a ravenous hunger for more money at the expense of hard-working employees, and then we've got the employees: a crew of 50-some people that come together and show the power of teamwork in the face of an unjust obstacle. Good stuff.

Twitter Thread: How Taylor Swift Cut Out Her Predatory Label

Whether you're a fan of Taylor Swift's music or not, it's interesting to learn about the long, long history of musicians signing horrible deals early in their careers and getting completely shafted later on when it comes to the rights of their own music. It's crazy to think that there are recording artists today don't own their own music, like we're still living in some old-timey Motown story of forgotten legends and cartoonishly evil businessmen. @ThatsMauvelous details the weird legal stunts Swift had to pull to get the rights to her music back from her old label.

Lingering Customer Can't Use Facilities After Close, Throws Tantrum

Closing time can be a dodgy period for employees. This lady brought her tea from home so it's unclear if she was even a real customer, but expecting to just stay as long as you want when all the employees should be off work anyway? What a way to live your life. Too many customers don't seem to get that closed means closed, like this entitled customer who expects a place to stay open late but can't handle rejection.

Jerk Boss Bumps Vacation, Employee Changes Passwords and Leaves

If there's ever a time to show your worth at a company, it's when you're not around to put out all the fires. This boss just had to have his vacation exactly when he wanted, even if that meant screwing over his employee. His poorly timed request for new passwords ensured things wouldn't run smoothly when the employee ended up taking a break. For another boss that did it to themselves, here's an employee who derailed their incompetent boss by working their scheduled hours.

Products That Are Too Marked Up For Their Own Good

Just about everything is a little bit of a racket. Hell, if everything was sold at cost, there'd be no reason for anyone to run a business. It's when businesses use brand sway and deceitful practices to drive insane markups that things start to seem unfair and hairy. Even if you are spending a lot on movie theater sodas and designer eyeglasses, at least you're not following these bits of the dumbest financial advice people have gotten. On the other side of it, here are reckless uses of money that people didn't regret at all.

Pun Business Names That Really Went For It

Does a business with a funny name make it a better business? Honestly, no. And in some case, like going to a chiropractor with a silly name would probably feel like a deal breaker. Who in this world wants their spine guy to be full of dad jokes? That said we can't fault these entrepreneurs for hinging the success of their business on a silly name they thought of.

The Worst Business Practices People Have Seen

Interacting with a dysfunctional institution is an interesting thing. To see something so big not work correctly is a sight to behold. Whether it's working at a place that inspires a "screw this i'm out" moment, or somewhere that's so bad up front that you get a real red flag interview, or just being a customer at a place so unprofessional it's shocking, we can pretty safely assume that it's better to spend your time in businesses that actually function.

Senior Network Engineers Fail To Follow Rule Zero, Company Wastes Thousands Of Dollars

Man, this is one of those outrageous tech support tales that almost seem too full of cluelessness to be real life. We have what seems to actually be a perfectly reasonable CEO who ends up being strung along for an ungodly long amount of time, because multiple senior network engineers are unable to put their heads together to resolve a rudimentary tech issue. The thing about taking video calls is if you want folks to be able to see/hear you, you've got to allow for those functions to run on your phone. You'd think this would be common sense, but hey, some tidbits of common knowledge are lost on folks. At least the matter was resolved.

Multiple senior network engineers are unable to resolve CEO's easily fixable tech issue. | Rule Zero Long 's an average post-holiday weekday afternoon at my work, which means am mostly hanging out, answering various questions our first line contact, clarifying department rules and updating procedures am also checking up on various ancient work orders gathering dust our queue, usually lack customer or management response, and indiscriminately nuking ones can close due lack customer response while

Senior Manager Gets Employee Fired, Employee Digs Up Manager's Dirty Past

If you have skeletons hanging out in your closet, it's probably best to not make it your personal mission to get an employee terminated over a whole bunch of nonsense. In this case, the employee did a little research on their old senior manager after being fired, and ended up learning that the senior manager had a bit of a troubled, secret past. Suffice to say, that was it for the senior manager, and the employee ended up being offered their gig.
