'Turned down three jobs for [this]': Worker shows up to their third day at new job to find the business has folded

Starting a new job can be as nerve-wracking as it is exciting. So many new doors open before you lead to new opportunities, which can bring a lot of uncertainty with it. Of course, those new doors won't lead anywhere at all if you show up on your third day to find them padlocked shut with a notice on the door… That's what happened to this poor job-seeker, Reddit user yelloworange01, who shared their experience in a post to the popular r/antiwork subreddit, a community that deals with all kinds…

20+ Ultimate fails from people who ruined their entire day

You'd be surprised just how badly one day can go, but you don't have to tell these people – they know firsthand. Who among us hasn't had a cooking mishap ? One person below somehow made their dish explode after cooking a dinner in it, while another ruined an entire kitchen in spectacular fashion. My personal favorite fail here is the baby who walked right into wet concrete, while the baby's parent looks super exasperated. At least that will wash off… unlike the person who tried to take a few ma…

'You don't understand business' : Employee reports mechanical manufacturing problems, gets ignored by terrible boss, leading to malicious compliance and loss of $300,000 in company profits

The person with the most mechanical knowledge is usually the person who is running the machine, but this boss didn't seem to think so. What led to this mess was the fact that this same boss refused to do regular maintenance on the (expensive) machine, so it began breaking down, as expected. An employee tentatively approached him, explaining that the company was going to lose a lot of money if they didn't shut it off in order to fix it. This advice fell on deaf ears.

'I have to take the breaks they specify? Sure!': Micromanaging boss demands shorter breaks to a machinist who had been skipping them anyways

Sometimes managers and business owners manage to convince themselves completely that everyone is out to get them. They're certain that their “lazy” workers are looking for every possible option to screw them over by slacking off on the job. Sure, there might be some workers like that out there. But from what I've seen in the workforce, they're completely outnumbered by those who are going above and beyond. Why jeopardize those workers' morale just so you can control the one bad egg? Why cut off…

'Firing me for exposing the company's illegal activities was also illegal, so instead she raged at me' : Employee maliciously complies with terrible manager, calls IT after finding error in system, resulting in fines amounting to $30,000

Companies often cheap out on buying software, instead opting to download a pirated version for free. If this were to come to light, the fines would be hefty, but a lot of companies get away with it. This one did not. An employee with no prior office experience was hired as a processor for a mortgage company. Her boss was extremely dismissive, as she looked down on her for having no experience. Her pride cost the company $30,000 in fines. What happened was the following: An unknown error popped…
