In 2011 the Ardbeg Distillery in Scotland partnered with Texas space research company NanoRacks to launch a vial of unmatured malt and charred oak pieces into orbit. The vial was launched on a Russian Soyuz rocket later that same year while an identical vial was kept as a control in the Ardbeg distillery. On September 12th, 2014 the vial is scheduled to return to Earth so the two can be compared. The hope in the experiment is to see how microgravity conditions affect the maturation process of whisky.
The 39-year-old soccer star's new whiskey has finally hit stores in London.
The new liquor, called Haig Club Single Grain Scotch Whisky, is now available for purchase at U.K. department store Selfridges for the cool price of $77 (or £45).
"Don't get hung up on numbers," Dave Broom, author of "The Complete Bartender's Guide," told Tales of the Cocktail attendees Saturday at "The Blind Truth About Aging Whisky" seminar, sponsored by Diageo. "Age just tells you how long it's been in a cask, not how good it is."
The Tales seminar focused on Scotch whisky, but experts say that tenet also extends to other whiskeys produced around the world. It's an increasingly important message for shoppers browsing liquor store shelves these days, with spirit distillers releasing both un-aged whiskeys and super-aged rarities—and many more that don't have an age noted.
When police arrived Hunley was covered in urine and she had "slurred speech, poor balance" and was "leaning against a car to keep her balance." Hunley told police she had drank two bottles of Black Velvet whiskey and urinated on herself for a second time after being taken into custody.
The blood alcohol content of .439 that Hunley allegedly posted during this incident was actually lower than the .462 she allegedly registered during an August incident that was detailed by the Gazette.
