'It ran out of fuel as I drove in': Man takes instructions literally and returns a rental car with no gas after being told to 'bring it back empty'

Getting things for free doesn't mean that you're not paying for it in some way. That is especially true when it comes to rental cars. They always claim that you're getting “free miles” or “comped gas" or an “upgrade at no cost”, but somewhere in your contract, and somewhere on your bill, you're probably paying for it anyways.

'Have fun with unemployment': Karen coworker fires herself by refusing to do her job

When you have a job, it's usually best to do that job if you want to keep it… Not get embroiled in a war of petty acts against a coworker who wanted no part in that war in the first place. If you choose the latter pathway, you need to be prepared for any consequences that follow. Redditor u/Peach_Gfuel shared this story to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit about their coworker who insisted on getting revenge on them for a perceived slight. u/Peach_Gfuel had previously worked for the Qual…

'I eventually quit': Manager insists on doing things their way because of their age... despite having less experience

Just because you're in charge doesn't mean you know better or have more experience—that's not your job. It's your job to ensure that the people who know how to do that job are getting it done and have the resources and ability to do so. A lot of managers get this confused or let their gargantuan ego get in the way, and then they end up with situations like this. Bonus points in these situations apply if the experienced subordinate is also significantly younger than the manager, which will often…

'She was unprofessional; she got fired’: Karen inaccurately audits employees' calls, refuses to recheck scores, gets fired

Minding your own business at work should be a simple and painless task unless you're a Karen, or being targeted by one. In this case, an employee (who we'll call Karen) made everything her business, blaming everyone else for her own mistakes, and ensuring her coworkers were as miserable as she was. One of these coworkers was OP, who had a personal vendetta against Karen from multiple unpleasant past experiences. The company they were working at was an insurance company, and OP's job was to coor…

'[Boss] got demoted': Boss demands worker stick to scheduled hours, results in obvious outcome

What should you do when your boss demands that you stick to your rostered hours after you've been working heaps of overtime to try and keep things afloat? Do exactly what they asked, of course. It's always nice to rack up a few hours of overtime here and there to get a bit of extra coin, but having to do it week on week is a sure way to burn out. Rather than rewarding your employer for understaffing the team, sometimes it's best to let things burn a little bit to get a little more support — esp…

'Fine, I'll honor our contract': Man gets even with ex-girlfriend when she demands he honor their $700,000 housing contract, costs her over $62,500

Breakups quickly get messy when a property is involved, and such was the case for this young couple who spent $700k on a house they shared. Initially, the woman paid a significant amount more than the man as she was extremely wealthy, and when they broke up she decided to buy him out. He thought that was fair, as there was no way he was gonna come up with hundreds of thousands of dollars. He originally thought he had 30% equity, but as it turned out, he actually had 33.3%. ‘I picked the HOA bylaws apart’ : Resident plants bamboo to overrun Neighbor’s bright LED security light

HOAs waste a lot of energy on ensuring all residents have permits for their plants, rose shrubs are trimmed correctly, and trampolines in backyards are painted in the right color. Some HOAs even enforce an overnight guest fee (put your welcome mats away). They love to interfere when interference is not needed but keep their nosy face knobs away when a resident actually has an issue that is worth looking into. In this case, a Texas resident who we'll call OP was enjoying suburban life until one…

This military wife commanded her husband's soldiers to salute her and the stickers on her vehicle, which led to a little tom-foolery from the soldiers who maliciously complied with their orders (as grunts are wont to do.) As commenters have pointed out, what is it with the "Military Wife as an entire personality" stereotype? '[My boss] knew very little about this report': Manager takes credit for subordinate's work, backfires when she can't answer questions about it

Taking credit for your subordinate's work is a part of being in charge. After all, if you're managing the team, delegating, and making things work, you deserve it—partly. However, it's incredibly important to give credit where credit's due and recognize the people who actually did the work, came up with the ideas, and put in the time; pretending you did it yourself is dishonest and a good way to get a whole lot of bad karma barreling down on you. Plus, you might end up in a circumstance like th…
