As we've all had hammered into our heads from an early age, dolphins and whales are mammals. Put extremely simply, dolphins started when some kind of weird pig/rat/wolf/hippo creature figured land was a bad move and there were more opportunities back in the water. That in-between thing looks like a failed science experiment. Nature has produced some strange things, like this cold-blooded freak-devil cave goat. Suzanne Shultz, an evolutionary biologist over at the University of Manchester is the author of a recent study that says dolphins' social behavior is an aquatic version of human society. BUT, she goes on to write at one point that dolphins won't ever overtake humans, due to their lack of hands.
