Spooky Signs That Mean Serious Business

We live with more than a few cartoonish dangers in our world. There's loose monkeys, plants that only exist to inflict pain, and brain amoebas. There are cliffs, falling rocks, and every manner of potential electrocution. If not for these creepy signs that make their message clear, we'd be having that much harder a time. While terrifying signs are first and foremost helpful things, that doesn't mean they're not real spooky.

Ominous Signs That Pump Up The Creepiness

Sure, some creepy signs can ruin the mood, but reading a sign that says "beware of flaming sinkhole" is a whole lot more convenient than falling into one and having all of your clothes burned off while your crush watches and laughs. Just kidding, you'd probably just burn to death. Anyway, the lesson is that we all have something to gain from terrifying signs that speak the language of fear.

Weird and Terrifying Images To Feel Uncomfortable About

They say that fear is the oldest feeling there is. They probably didn't have decaying puppets or underwater clowns in the dawn of man, but holy hell do they do the job. On second thought, maybe primordial clowns came from the sea just like us? Long, wet clowns with gills that honked. Maybe it's best not to think about it. From the world's cursed images to the necessary but ominous signs we use to warn each other of real danger, there's some spooky crap out there, man.

Terrifying Signs That Had Good Reasons To Be Scary

They say what you don't know can't hurt you, but that line of logic doesn't work when it comes to exposed wires, sinkholes, hidden explosive ordinance, and bears. Also poison ivy, quicksand, riptides, monkeys and poison gas. Oh yeah, plus geese, shooting ranges and nuclear runoff. But that's close to all of it. Maybe. Either way these creepy signs made their message clear.

Creepy and Imposing Signs That Aren't Messing Around

They say what you don't know can't hurt you. The "they" in that phrase seems not to have ever heard about dangerous heavy equipment, poisonous trees, and looming monkey attacks. These creepy signs make their message clear about what's coming for whom, and that's probably a good thing. Even though these terrifying signs speak the language of fear, they're still trying to tell us something, and that's better than nothing.

Creepy Moments People Won't Forget Anytime Soon

There are a few types of creepy stories. Some are like a quizzical moment that people have a hard time explaining, like a weird coincidence or some kind of paranormal junk. Then there's the other kind of creepy, the kind where you wake up at 3 in the morning, look out your window and there's just a dude standing in the middle of the road staring at your house. Yikes.

Terrifying Signs that Speak the Language of Fear

Put simply, there are a lot of things out there that can kill you, such as electricity, fires, electricity fires, strong currents, loose animals, and accidentally wandering into firing ranges. Even a big hole can be ridiculously dangerous if it's deceptively placed. It's better that we have spooky signs to remind us that, while we're basically at the top of the food chain, we aren't invincible. The signs can get pretty creepy though.

Twitter Thread: Old Wax Figures are Some Prime Nightmare Fuel

Wyatt Duncan takes us on a journey of really not great wax figures that are presumably somewhere right now, moldering away in people's basements and love dungeons. Judging by how many creepy wax figures we've seen, it must be really hard to do this correctly. For some insight on why these are so creepy, here's a tumblr thread on the uncanny valley aspects of why unrealistic animation is less unsettling than realistic animation

Ominous Signs that Speak the Language of Fear

Some spooky signs and threats seem more cartoonish than others, but what these signs do is make you ask some deep questions about what had to happen for that sign to get there. There's surprise abandoned mine shafts, nearly invisible wasps nests, aggressive-ass geese, and unexploded munitions around every corner. The world has its fair share of uniquely spooky signs.

A passenger started recording a sparking wheel during takeoff from Montreal. The whole wheel comes off, but luckily planes are built with redundancy in mind and the thing landed safely soon after. No one was injured, but some pants were probably harmed.

Apparently all the oil in these trees makes them extra flammable, and when the wind spreads the flames through the canopy like this, it spreads quickly, violently, and it's absolutely terrifying.

Ominous Signs That Are Too Good At Being Spooky

Overall, it's good that we have signs like these, because it means someone is looking out for you. That said, such a casual reminder of your own mortality can seem a little off-putting, especially when spooky signs do too good a job. Some could even argue that some scary signs are scarier than they have to be.

Spooky Signs That are Doing Too Good a Job of Being Scary

Your typical sign might have some directive information, and maybe a small diagram or two. These spooky signs went above and beyond, be it their detailed depiction of how bad a threat is, the sad peculiarity of said threat, or just the spookiness of their vague ominousness. There are a lot of signs out there that are scarier than they had to be.
