'I got paid for doing absolutely nothing': Call center worker unable to do their job due to technical error enjoys a paid day at home

Working in a call center is a pretty thankless gig. Constantly dealing with less-than-kind customers who are frustrated at your company's refusal to help them with their problem with your product—which to be fair, is a known issue that the company has deemed to be too expensive to resolve. So, now you're bearing the brunt of that frustration on a daily basis because your wage for 20 years still costs far less than paying R&D to fix the issue.

'OK, keep the deposit and do it all by yourself': Guy dumps girlfriend, moves out and maliciously complies with ex's ultimatum so she has to clean for once

It's important to be careful with your wording over text, especially if you're delivering an ultimatum to your ex. This woman was trying to threaten that if her ex didn't come to clean their apartment before he moved out, she would keep all of their security deposit. The trouble was that he had no interest in doing all of the work and was pleased to let her take the money. She did not anticipate that he might maliciously comply with her demands in a way that would make her have to clean the apa…

'I unplugged my phone': Guy discovers he's been answering colleague's calls for years, unplugs his phone so they have to answer them

Getting on with the daily grind can often be a wearisome chore, especially when you find yourself needing to do your coworker's tasks for them in addition to your own. It's not like you had enough to do as it was. Now you're busy going around picking up after them as well, and to make matters worse, you know, mentioning it to your boss won't do a thing to solve the problem and might even end up with you being labeled as not being a “team player.”

‘I got my first official parking ticket’: Bewildered Philly drivers share the hilarity of the parking situations in their neighborhoods

Sometimes you get so annoyed you just have to laugh, and Philly drivers know this feeling so well. Driving in major cities is a special kind of nerve wracking. Most of us learn to drive by navigating back roads and highways. People tend to obey the laws here, and if you pick a remote enough area, you can have plenty of space to practice. In a city, though, it's like the rules just don't apply half the time. It's all about what you can get away with. Just tell that to the person whose car is roc…

'Every time he asked me a question I said, "Hmm, not sure"': Tropical fish store's expert employee tries to help customer, customer demands to be aided by 'someone who knows things'

Even though she was only 17 years old, this woman was already an expert on koi and other tropical fish . It's fortuitous that she got a job to match, starting off at a retail tropical fish store. Whether you have a pet or not, spending time at pet stores is a fun and free activity to do. Many stores have tons of cats and dogs, some have gerbils or birds, and others have aisles and aisles of fish tanks. As far as retail jobs go, I imagine this is a pretty calm place to work most of the time.

'Lots of unqualified people selling hearing aids with a 500% markup': 20+ shady industries to be on the lookout for

In this day and age, there seem to be just as many bogus jobs and industries out there as there are legitimate ones. Frankly, that's a generous statement considering this list, which was compiled from this r/AskReddit thread. Some of these fields range in scope, but all of it boils down to unqualified people selling overvalued products. This could include consulting agencies that really have no business running data and making executive decisions from their third-party perspectives. This includ…

'Several things happened that made us frustrated': Dining couple can't get through to waitress, internet divided about who was in the wrong

When you don't want fast food but also don't want to pay $35 for an entree, it might be time to head to a chain restaurant. The prices of everything these days have gone up to utterly comical levels. While looking to find a nice dinner at a spot in Manhattan, I found one place that looked stunning. Then, I took a peek at their menu to find that the cheapest item was an $18 appetizer of potato chips. Just let that sink in: nearly $20 for potato chips, as the cheapest menu item . I weep for the f…

'She can get lost': Karen complains about her shift schedule despite not following rules, supervisor maliciously complies, extends her shifts

Usually when it comes to scheduling troubles at work, it is often the manager who does not honor their employees' schedules, but here we have a rare instance in which the employee was at fault. That's mainly because this person was a Karen through and through. Now, I do have sympathy for employees in freelance or part-time roles who make their schedules crystal clear to their managers and are then put in uncomfortable positions in which they are pressured to forgo their other commitments. My fi…

That's right, these neighbors seemed so entitled, we had to combine rude and obnoxious to make rudenoxious and we're not even sorry about it. Every now and then we come across a Reddit story where someone feels bad about what they did, but the further you read the more you realize the truth. That this person is just considerate and the person or persons making them feel guilty is actually the guilty one(s). Moving house is a stressful affair that is capped off by the uncertainty of who your new neighbors will be. It's like you're spending your entire life savings to get a single roll of a D20, which could very well end up in a critical failure. After all, nothing makes or breaks the enjoyment of a peaceable existence like ending up next to the wrong people; you could have the most perfect abode that you'd ever dreamed of and still be more miserable than you were in your little old decrepit one if…

'Did my employee rage-quit, or did I fire her?': Manager joins HR to figure out what to do about twice-fired employee

This is the mysterious case of one manager who isn't sure if she fired an employee , or if she quit. In any workplace, people will have personalities that mismatch. That can be a big issue if it's between a manager and someone they work with every single day. And this employee sounds like a hot mess to be honest. The OP, u/indieOsam, was one employee's manager , and she quickly realized that this worker was going to be a handful. There are a few bright red waving flags: for one, the employee wa…

Everybody who has every worked in the service industry has had their own embarrassing story. While it might be gratifying to send that email you've been desperately wanting to send or to verbally rebuke your boss for wasting your time—as with anything, it's always best to sit on it for a little while… Let that scathing email sit in your drafts until you've had a good night's sleep, and take some time to reflect on what it is you're saying and how other people will perceive it. Maybe, after a little reflection, you won't be feeling so hot-headed and will take a more diplomatic approach…

Welcome to the working world, where even your former bosses think that they're always in charge of you well after you leave. What happened to this security officer, unfortunately, is not an industry-specific experience.
