'The majority of the staff quit within months': Boss tries to make employees start work 20 minutes early, workers retaliate and make a pact to arrive early every shift and hang out together in their cars

Don't you just love a good coworker bond over a common hatred that you can just spend all shift gossiping with and feeling validated for it? Me too. Whether it's a boss, a coworker, sports, anything. Nothing beats those special bonds that make work a little less miserable. Well, in this story, these coworkers became besties over their shared hatred of their new boss.

'They're threatening to sue my new job for "theft of talent"': System Engineer's new employer gets sued by their last one who laid them off

Some people want to have their cake and eat it too—this employer wants to put their cake out on the street with a sign that says “free” and then sue you after you come along and take that perfectly good cake home. Except cake we're talking about here is a human being If you wanted further evidence that some employers think they own their workers, look no further than the fact that this employer thought that they could lay a worker off and that they were just going to come back on their knees be…

'I made the mistake of assuming he was telling the truth': Boss tells employee he'll drive her home from work before a snowstorm hit, ends up ghosting her and left her stranded

Doesn't matter whether it's a boss/employee, parent/child, or friend/friend relationship, this story is pretty messed up. So, our OP doesn't have a car (not sure how she was planning to get home from work originally, but that's beside the point). Her and the boss are the only ones working at her job on this particular day. Once they got word that a pretty big snowstorm was coming, her boss said he'd close up work early and drive her home. As you guys already know, this wasn't the case.

'Our turnover rate is through the roof': Entitled boss mocks employee for taking first day off in 10 months, gets instant karma when half of his employees quit

Ever had a lousy boss or a job that you absolutely hated ? Well, imagine working at a place with a jaw-dropping 92% turnover rate. Yup, you heard it right. Our OP, in ten whole months, took just one, yes ONE day off, and it was actually just a half-day. Why? Well, he had a nasty sunburn that turned into sun poisoning. So, when he informed his boss that he had to bail out in the middle of his shift for a doctor's appointment, his boss couldn't help but chuckle. Sunburn wasn't a good enough reaso…

'Do not buy the coffee': 20 Fast food employees tell all about the worst items to order

No one goes to a fast food restaurant for nutrition per se, but we should expect the bare minimum with regard to sanitation. Now, we're not here to tell you that fast food is bad for you. First of all, that's a given. Second of all, how are we going to stop you for those restless late nights when the only thing that can give you some semblance of joy is a large Oreo milkshake and an order of chicken nuggets? Still, if you find yourself walking into a fast food establishment on one of those desp…

'[I] stormed out of the office': Worker told that they won't be getting their annual raise despite overachieving performance

There's a reason why businesses only offer services once an ironclad contract has been signed and reviewed. It's because they know “good” business is conducted on what you can legally get away with—maximizing your own cash flow by separating someone else from theirs—and that it's not conducted on verbal agreements, vague promises, goodwill, or moral quandary. Yet, they expect their workers to accept doing more work, working more hours with the vague expectation that it might one day lead to a r…

'I didn’t check my emails for seven weeks': Boss pressures employee to 'stay on top of things' during his paternity leave, employee puts his foot down

Anyone who thinks being a good employee means always checking your email when you're on paternity leave has to check their priorities. Sure, bosses tend to put a ton of unnecessary pressure on their employees, as if to say that checking their emails is more important than tending to their newborn child. In fact, this is almost the most obvious example of employers prioritizing work over life and livelihood. It really doesn't get more obvious than that. However, these are the moments in one's ca…

'It ended up costing them more money': IT Guy told to be at his desk from 8-5 despite after hours callouts, starts billing all his overtime instead, quits

At this point in the story of the history of the office worker, it should be common knowledge that being a productive worker doesn't mean being tied to a desk for 8 hours a day between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM. In the yesteryear of the evaluation of working performance, previous generations would have sat stoically at their desks and, whether or not they were actually doing anything of merit to contribute to the company, their ability to have their behind in that seat for eight hours a day wo…

'I will not be staying to paint [...] Because I don't want to': Boss thought he could force employees to work OT to paint the office, they refuse

Let this story serve as a friendly reminder to never let your managers think you'll take on responsibilities outside of your job description with little to no reward. This kind of behavior often starts in small, subtle ways. Perhaps your supervisor asks you to fetch them a coffee despite not being their executive assistant, or perhaps they ask you to stay after work for a short period of time for a delivery. The key is that when this happens, you draw a line in the sand from the very beginning.…

'I told [them] a 15k salary increase': Employee and boss get into heated salary negotiation after boss demands five days a week in the office

No one ever said that new office policies wouldn't be met with a little pushback, especially when it comes to in-person work. We all know that return-to-work policies should be delicately handled in a way that, at the very least, feels like a suitable compromise between the employer and the employee. Unfortunately, that compromise rarely happens; instead, we as employees often are expected to take these new strict policies in stride. Thankfully, every so often, someone finds an opportunity to t…
