thanksgiving

By a Show of Hands runs an annual hand turkey art contest; while there are separate categories for kids, adults, and pros, nothing says Thanksgiving like a hand turkey crafted by a child. The site is taking submissions until the 27th, so your kids (or you!) still have time to enter!

Believe it or not, people have been cooking all kinds of savory meats in their dish washers since the 1970's. Reknowned chef, David Burke, says that can even include the star of your holiday feast! Sealing the bird tightly in a number of Tupperware containers and running it for a few cycles will apparently do the trick. It probably isn't the best way to get that classic golden sheen, but it will definitely be a conversation starter around the dinner table!

Ahh, Thanksgiving. Turkey, pumpkin pie, stuffing, rampant consumerism...

Thanksgiving as we know it is only celebrated in America, but many other countries have their own unique celebrations which are all meant to give thanks and celebrate the end of the season's harvest. Presumably, they all copied America because they thought our idea was so cool. Here are a few of the more famous festivals.
