In all fairness, punk can't really compete based on the guitar parts alone. You have to have at LEAST one verse consisting of a guy screaming unintelligibly about anarchy or bollocks or how he's not going to clean his room like his mother told him to.
I can't tell if that's a condescending smirk or a pained grimace. Either way, this is totally how Green Day and Blink 182 will be remembered: not as the bands who turned punk into pop, but who were punk. Sorry, 1977!
